It's been a long time that I and some people I know were looking after a place on the web to publish a Symfony developer profile, post a job offer, share contacts and/or project opportunities. There's been some initiatives here and here, but nothing has really convinced me so far. So I've decided to write something on my own.
The name of the project is Symfonians. It's available in a beta state and only in english language for now.
There must exist a lot of bugs, so feel free to report them if you use the service
Ah, last but not least, I imagine that the site won't display nice on IE6 (maybe on IE7 too), but for now I don't care as I don't have much time to loose on this kind of fascinating CSS hacking challenges

Congratz! Let's pass it on.
Nice idea, let's look at it !
I'm signing up..
Some bugs :
- only alphanumeric characters are alowed for username, I cannot put any "ï" ! I know it's easier for devs, but I like the ï in my username
.
- the errors in forms are printed under the field, this is a bit strange, at first I thought it was the next field who had the error : I think you should change this, or find a way to link the error with the field.
- after registering, I was send to a page with a green div "A confirmation mail has been sent to the_pyre@hotmail.com". Then, I went to the page "http://symfonians.net/person/niko" (clicking on the link in the footer), and the green div was still there... but when I updated the page (F5), it disappeared.
- I'm still waiting for the registration link, I check (in the green div), it's the right mail adress but I didn't receive any mail. I'll give you more feedback when I received the mail (if I receive it
).
Nice site so far, with a "web 2.0" (arrghg) touch.
Great
Neat
Congrats !
J'ai cru un instant qu'on ne la verrait jamais en ligne cette application
Héhé bien cool cette petite appli. J'espere quelle deviendra rapidement la référence !
PS: A mort IE. :P
great idea !
will the sources be released ?
Geoffrey> Yes, on symfonians.org when the code will be cleaned enough to be releaseable
Do you plan to launch a Zend Framework community with it ?
bravo NiKo
très belle appli
niko: that would be lot of fun for sure
but I'm not much into ZF these times, I'm doing... rails, keep it secret :x
or I might just use your sources to get started with symfony, who knows
btw, I just tested the signup, and all went right
Piwaï> I don't think putting non alphanumeric characters in usernames is a great idea, as the username is used as a slug in profile urls. I know this could be possible but I want something as clean and portable as possible for now
For the confirmation mails, seems that I got some troubles with some ISP that rely on abuseat CBL. I'm digging it.
Merci pour cet excellent site
Je m'inscris de ce pas !
niko > I understand your concern. Furthermore, this site is intented to be used only in english, isn't it ?
By the way.. could you please delete my account (piwai) or send me the confirmation link in an email manually (use the mail in your database
) ?
Thanks by advance
Trés belle initiative!!
Je suis preneur...
Piwaï> I've just manually activated your account, you should now be able to connect
Thanks, it works !
Well, I found another bug.. when you do not give the right format for a date, for example the birthday, the fillin funny :
I entered 17-08-1986 instead of 1986-08-17, and the automatic fillin set the input to 2017-08-1986.
Is there another place to give you some feedback about the bugs (or feature requests) we may encounter ? I guess there is the contact form, but it's quite long to fill it everytime (there should be an automatic fillin when you're logged in), and we cannot keep a record of what is said..
Let's continue with another one : when you create an application, and you set the release date in the future.. here is what you see :
* Development started on November 2006
* Application released on February 2007
* Application has been released in 3 months
Maybe you should make the sentences a bit different when the date is in the future ?
Piwaï> Yes, the date input is the functionnal weak point of my forms, I admit. I plan to release this app as opensource, so there will be a dedicated Trac instance for bug reports. In the meanwhile, my email address (or the contact form of this blog) is your friend
For your second problem, well, theorically my validators are saying that future dates are forbidden. And 2007 is... in the past
En tous cas, c'est ce genre de projet communautaire qui sauve Symfony dans mon estime...
Bravo pour le trafic que tu as su engendrer en deux jours...
shame on me...
Hey people, my smtp server is no more blacklisted on spamhaus nor abuseat \o/
Looks like having a dedibox is not something nicely seen from the RBLs point of view :/
So activation mails will now be delivered, I hope.
Sympa la petite initiative "not tested in IE", c'est punk à souhait, j'adore !
